LEADER Log No. 2,258 ( 23.09.00 - 27.07.08. ):  The State of The Union - the poisoned chalice !! No, not the United States of America, but England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Island. Even after the American War of Independence, the states of America still carry their historic backcloth, which after several hundred years remains intact, with the and west coast mafias, and the north - south divide. All, within which, is a huge multi-ethnic racial mix, carrying all the social and economic tensions that such a society will create. Yet, in times of world tension they all rally to The Flag be it Confederate, or Yankee. Many examples of their commitment to war on foreign shores well recorded, since the 1900 s. What was England is now in a state of social and economic revolution, as politicians sought to tamper with the British Constitution, and got it badly wrong. Northern Ireland remains on knife edge with the so-called Pease Talks brought a relative clam to what was a bitter struggle between Catholic and Protestant. The Continuity IRA still dominates in certain of the thirty two counties of Ireland, so bitterly divided, since the time of The Protector, Oliver Cromwell, himself a Republican having dispatched the foreign king, Charles I. Scotland and Wales have been given a modicum of independence from The Crown, with their own parliamentary buildings, and votes on many more localised matters coming from their own MP s. Strangely, and bizarrely the same MP s are allowed to vote on English matters. However, in theory at least they owe their allegiance to The Crown, as they take a vow of allegiance on becoming MP s. Other then  Sinn Fein, that is. When Tony B-liar finally relinquished his grip on the Parliamentary throne, he handed The Red Baton to yet another Scotsman, namely, Gordon Brown. He took the poisoned chalice, without election, and now in the wake of three disastrous by-elections, both sides of The Lowlander Borders, he faces the ultimate leadership challenge. This dour Scot, of somewhat shabby appearance has failed to realise that the English public do not suffer fools gladly, at least not in the long-term. Churchill felt the brunt of their willpower in the post war general election. Cast aside even after his great war effort. Montgomery likewise not brought to the fore of British politics, which then was still in the fading grasp of the Upper Classes and related aristocracy, many of dubious origins. Now English society has galloped forward from the cloth cap image and Presbyterian pulpit thumping of yesteryear. Strangely and bizarrely, both B-liar and Brown carried their religious cross southwards, and in some cases rested their laurels on such beliefs. The latter believing the Iraq war lay between his judgement and that of his Maker, God Almighty. Pres. Bush too has some of that in his Texan make-up. It is an unequivocal fact  that this New Labour Conservative government has lost the public's confidence, and cannot deal comprehensively with the serious flaws that have broken the veneer of these tiny islands. No more Empire to draw wealth from, or a brow beaten working class sent to their deaths in the millions in two world wars of German-Prussian origin. Ireland took a referendum on the Lisbon agreement and firmly booted it into touch. The once mighty British dither and thither, as they will not give their public the honour of a referendum, as B-liar plots his European path to the throne. England, like America has its own north - south divide, and London takes the plunder in world financial markets. The City guards its independence against all-comers be that B-liar or Brown, Straw and Hoon ( the Scottish grey beard, suited carpetbagger cabal ). On the other side of the coin we face an alternative of returning to the Eton Cabal, in the form of another Scot, Cameron. The Lib-Labs are pathetic and they too have a cabal of Scots in line for their party leadership. Their recent leadership tussles emanating from the departure of Charles Kennedy - another Scot. The English Parliament once un der the iron fist of The Lord Protector - Cromwell, is now awash with dozens of Welsh, N. Ireland and Scottish MP s. who hold sway in crucial votes. England has lost its way. It is not for nothing that when we switch on T.V. and radio, it is as if we are in Scotland. Who is to take the poisoned chalice now ?  No doubt, the corridors of power are now trembling to the sound of the chattering classes, most of whom, have Etonian credentials.
